Personally my favorite character is Sarafine Duchannes. I just absolutely love her. Her background story is amazing. i mean she didn't want to become a dark caster, it was chosen for her. Honestly i think her mother was a little to harsh to her when she became a dark caster . I mean she disowned her and is probably part of the reason Sarafine ended up the way she did. What really sent Sara off of the edge was John. I mean hew was just testing and testingg her. He was basically asking to be killed. John's real mistake was to tell Sara that he would take Lena and just leave. I mean you don't tell a mother that your taking her daughter away from her, that would just piss me off. John was nice at first, like when Sara just changed. He knew she was going dark, and he still loved her. But when Sara and John got into the fight that killed John, he was just way off. He was blaming what was happening to Sara on her, when it was the curses fault. The curse was " The first will go dark, but the second can choose.  Also why would you threaten a mother, especially if She was a  cataclyst. ( A natural gone dark) Once again i say John was asking to be killed. When you think about it Sarafine didn't actually go completely dark and insane until Abraham came along, and made sure of it . Even after Sarafine went dark  and was insanely evil i still love her. Most likely because she is evil and hilarious at the same time.

The relationship between Lincoln and Riddley is very tempting, but my favorite character is deffinately Amma. This small black woman's fiesty nature and wisdom is precious, I truely have loved Gullah culture, during my working travels to the South Carolina coast, though I have cause to doubt that the authors know it very well, they have at least had the good sence not to advertise their ignorance by including too much in the books and have let us the readers fill in the blanks. With some effort toward research they could have included key gullah words, but since they did not even try to research New Orleans, and so failed miserably to get anything right, we should not expect them to illuminate or educate regarding gullah. I want to know more about Amma but do not expect to have these wishes fulfilled.

The city of Gatlin could be a character of it;s own.

I'm definately a Ridley fan she's more complex than being just light or dark you know deep down she has a heart but you never can be sure of what she capable of or willing to do for power and then you add link and you see a whole new side to her plus she's got style and attitude which just makes me love her

My favorite character is Ridley. She seems so sinister and dark, but at certain times, she is indescribably nice. I find that the relationship between her and Link is one of the most interesting relationships there is. It is almost bitter sweet. Ridley is the perfect mix of sweet and sour.
